Ellie's Favourite Long Lunches on the Amalfi Coast

There's just something about a long lunch on the Amalfi Coast. Maybe it's the fact nobody's in a rush, maybe it's the endless rosé and pasta, or maybe it's because every table seems to come with a ridiculous view. Either way, some of my best travel memories have happened over lunch here.

I've spent a lot of time on the Amalfi Coast over the years and these are the places I keep going back to. The kind of lunches that somehow turn into entire days - swimming between courses, another bottle of rosé arriving at the table, sunset creeping in before anyone realises what time it is.

Conca del Sogno - The Ultimate Amalfi Coast Lunch for a Fun Day

Conca del Sogno is one of those places that somehow still feels special every single time. The best way to do it is by boat from Capri with a big group of friends. Pulling up by sea already sets the tone for the day. If you're going with a larger group, absolutely request the private terrace area when booking. It's hands down the best spot in the restaurant with unreal views over the water.

Now let's talk about the food because this is where things get serious. You have to order the spaghetti nerano, the salted sea bass and sgroppinos for dessert. The spaghetti nerano here is honestly one of the best pasta dishes on the Amalfi Coast. So creamy, so delicious. The salted sea bass is done tableside and they crack it open in front of you which always becomes a whole moment. Then the sgroppinos arrive... which is usually when the lunch really starts getting fun. They make them fresh at the table with a whole show and somehow everyone suddenly decides they're staying another few hours.

The best part? You can swim literally at your feet before lunch, after lunch or halfway through lunch if the mood hits. Hard to beat for a boozy, fun Amalfi Coast day with friends.

Fontelina - Iconic Capri for a Reason

Fontelina is iconic and honestly... it never misses. Yes, it's hard to get into. But there's a reason people keep coming back.

The ideal day here is booking beach chairs before or after lunch so you can properly settle in for the afternoon. The water is incredible and the whole atmosphere just feels very classic Capri. Book well in advance because reservations disappear quickly during European summer. (Our Ahoy team can always help here.)

Order seafood, order rosé, stay longer than planned. That's the formula.

Maria Grazia - The Birthplace of Spaghetti Nerano

Maria Grazia feels completely different to some of the more glamorous Amalfi Coast restaurants and that's exactly why I love it. It's casual, local and completely authentic - the kind of place you come for an amazing lunch and end up staying all afternoon.

Most importantly, this is where Spaghetti alla Nerano was born. Back in 1952, in the tiny seaside village of Nerano, Maria Grazia's kitchen created what would become one of the Amalfi Coast's most iconic pasta dishes. The story goes that Prince Pupetto brought a noble friend to his favourite trattoria and wanted to impress him with something special. Together with Rosa, they worked with what they already had prepared in the kitchen, fried zucchini, fresh basil from the garden, local cheese and spaghetti, and accidentally created Spaghetti alla Nerano.

And honestly? Once you try the original version here, you understand why the dish became legendary. It's one of those deceptively simple Italian dishes that somehow tastes impossible to recreate at home. If you want a lunch that feels genuinely local rather than overly scene-y, this is your spot.

Villa Treville - Quiet Luxury Done Properly

Villa Treville feels like hidden Amalfi Coast luxury. Tucked away above Positano, it's peaceful, romantic and feels a million miles away from the crowds. The kind of place where you accidentally lose track of time because everything is just... calm.

The food is excellent, the setting is beautiful and it's perfect if you want a slower, more intimate lunch. Especially good for couples or honeymoon-style trips where you want something special without it feeling overly flashy. Very chic. Very Amalfi.

Carlino at Il San Pietro di Positano - Lunch by the Water

Carlino at Il San Pietro is one of those places that instantly reminds you why the Amalfi Coast is so special. What makes it different is that it's right down by the water, not up at the main hotel restaurant. You're basically eating lunch cliffside with the sea directly in front of you which is very hard to top.

The perfect setup is lunch first, then spending the afternoon on the beach chairs tanning and swimming off the platform below. The food is incredible, the setting feels relaxed despite being part of one of the most iconic hotels on the coast and the whole experience just feels effortlessly Amalfi.

One of those lunches where you plan to stay for two hours and suddenly it's sunset.

La Tagliata - The Perfect End to the Walk of the Gods

This is one of the best full-day Amalfi Coast experiences. Start with the Walk of the Gods hike from Amalfi towards Positano - absolutely a must-do if you're visiting the coast. The views the entire way are insane.

Then finish at La Tagliata. After the walk, this place hits differently.

It's an organic farm-to-table restaurant high up in the hills overlooking the coastline and there's no menu. You simply sit down and they start bringing food. And they do not stop bringing food.

Homemade pasta, meats, vegetables, cheeses, desserts - every single thing tastes fresh and amazing. You basically just trust the process and prepare for a serious feast.

One of those lunches where everyone leaves saying: "Okay... that was unbelievable."

In Summary

People always ask me where to eat on the Amalfi Coast and honestly, these are the spots I return to over and over again.

For me, Amalfi is best experienced slowly. Long lunches, no plans afterwards, swimming between courses, too much pasta, one more bottle of wine you definitely didn't need.

That's the magic of it.
