While the French Riviera is full of famous beach clubs and glamorous restaurants, locals tend to return to places that feel more relaxed, understated and genuinely good year after year.

These are the spots that still feel authentically Riviera.

Plage Keller, Juan-les-Pins

Plage Keller has remained a local favourite for decades thanks to its calmer atmosphere, private cove location and excellent seafood.

Compared to some of the larger Saint Tropez beach clubs, the experience here feels far more understated and relaxed. Long lunches tend to stretch into all afternoon beach days with families and locals returning every summer.

The water here is also some of the clearest along this stretch of coastline.

La Petite Plage, Golfe Juan

La Petite Plage captures that effortless Riviera style without feeling overly formal.

Located in Golfe Juan, it combines waterfront dining with a more relaxed atmosphere than some of the larger Cannes beach clubs. The menu focuses on Mediterranean sharing dishes, seafood and lighter lunches perfect for summer afternoons by the sea.

African Queen, Beaulieu-sur-Mer

African Queen is one of the French Riviera's true institutions and somewhere locals, yacht owners and long time Riviera regulars have been returning to for decades.

Located on the waterfront in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, the atmosphere feels classic Côte d'Azur. Elegant without trying too hard, polished but still relaxed enough for long lunches that stretch well into the afternoon.

The menu is known for Mediterranean seafood, grilled fish and traditional Riviera dishes, with many guests arriving by tender directly from their boats during summer.

Unlike some of the newer beach clubs and scene driven restaurants across the Riviera, African Queen has remained timeless which is exactly why it still feels so relevant.

Jardin Tropezina, Saint Tropez

Jardin Tropezina feels more relaxed and refined than many of the louder Pampelonne beach clubs.

The atmosphere is elegant without trying too hard and attracts a mix of locals, returning summer visitors and people wanting a calmer Saint Tropez beach day.

Perfect for slower lunches and long afternoons on the beach.

Restaurant Les Graniers, Saint Tropez

Restaurant Les Graniers remains one of the best low key lunch spots near Saint Tropez town.

Set beneath the citadel and right by the water, it feels removed from the intensity of Pampelonne while still offering one of the prettiest lunch settings in the area.

Simple food, great swimming and a much more authentic Riviera atmosphere overall.
